Oaxaca

Pronounced 'Wa-ha-ka' this cute little town is snug between some mountain ridges. This town is cute and cultural, with pretty churches, nice museums etc.  Apparently it's a nice little gem, but we aren't interested in buildings and that kind of history too much, so we caught 2 buses (they didn't tell us when to get off, so we missed our stop...twice). We were couchsurfing with a great guy called Carlos, who owns a climbing gym.

We were lost, so we had a beer (Corona) and ate delicious Quesadillas. Oaxaca is famous for it's stringy cheese. Delicious! It reminds me of goats cheese, and it's super stringy. The flavours are mild, but definitely evident. Perfect for quesadillas. A very hot and long walk up the road to find the climbing gym, we saw a group of people with climbing gear. Sweet! We  chatted with them, they pointed us in the right direction. Thank god we met them because we were walking in the complete opposite direction! (We don't have a guide book/map or anything for Mexico).
How delicious does that look? Quesedillas in Oaxaca are amazing!
We met Carlos, such a kind man! He was busy teaching little kids how to climb, so he quickly showed us our 'couch' - bunkbeds literally above the climbing gym. Very nice. About 4-6 other couchsurfers were also staying there, most from Mexico City.

Down towards the mountains we walked to meet the other climbers we met. The scenery reminds me of South Africa. It's so beautiful. The yellow, tall grass interrupted by trees with a breeze really reminds me of home. The locals were bouldering there, and we met some wonderful people. Oaxaca is chilled. Night time we all chilled together, chipped in $30 pesos each and made quesadillas. An Argentinian girl - Claudia - was drinking a mug of tea, a typical Argentinian drink that just look like a pile of weed in a mug with a teaspoon of water! Nice to meet people from all over.
The golden grass on the hills just outside of Oaxaca.

The boulder the locals were pulling mad tricks on, Oaxaca.
